Audio in footage from Sony FS100 (.MTS) appears as pink noise in all Adobe products

I dusted off the old FS100 to do a quick transfer of 8mm sound movie film. It plays perfectly in Windows Media Player, but in all Adobe products, it plays as pink noise (obviously the bitstream).

Same result in both Beta and shipping versions of Premier, Audition and Media Encoder.

I ran it thru Handbrake and it decoded correctly.

Ideas?

FWIW, the footage was a split clip (since the FS100 chunks things into 2GB blocks), and I thought that may have led to the problem.  So I ran it thru the Sony Content Management utility to combine it into an .M2TS file. Still didn't work. I wound up encoding it to MP4 in Handbrake, then Adobe liked it.
