Create Captions Preset Does Not Save 24.0.0.14

This is working in Release 23.5.0.

See this "Ideas" (really a bug report) for related issues that are still present in this Beta or that could not be tested. @Kerstin Ebert

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-ideas/save-caption-module-default-prefences/idc-p/13834259#M9205

Steps to reproduce:
1 Set up a sequence with an asset and either a source or static transcription.

2 Click "Create Captions"

3 Change any of the preferences, then click the 3 dots, and Save Current Settings as Preset.

4 The ok/save button is a Checkmark and the cancel is a circle with a line.

Result: The checkmark does nothing; the cancel button cancels.
Expected: The checkmark would save the preset, show it in the Project Panel, and make the Create Captions dialogue active to continue with the new preset

@WSFS Dave @Kerstin Ebert,

I had not tested this for a while. I just updated to 25.2.0 on Win 10. It is working correctly for me. Note that when updating, I reset preferences, clear cache, and fcreate a new project.

I transcribed a sample and created captions. I created 3 caption styles. I recreated captions, this time, creating a subtitle format preset with one of the caption styles ("blue"), and changed the character length to 72 and single lines.

I did find this a bit odd: Once I specified those settings, I clicked the 3 dot menu and picked "Export current settings as preset." The default name is "subtitle default," which I changed. But the preset being used is still "Subtitle Default" and the newly created preset is not in the dropdown list. To use the new preset, I must first import it. It is then available for use.

I created captions with the new preset, and it creates them correctly.

I create captions again, and the preset selected is sticky for the previous custom preset, with the caption track style, and other settings. The captions are created correctly.

If I leave that custom preset, but change the style and other settings, it correctly creates them with the modified settings.

Regarding the problem I previously reported where changing a style from the preset could result in incorrect results the next time, this is also working correctly.

@Kerstin Ebert, I have been on v24 and currently on v25 and I have never had my CC presets sucessfully save. Nothing has been fixed.

@Kerstin Ebert,

Upgraded to 24.0.0.40

Yes, the single/double line is fixed.

My "New" observation above remains a problem:

Create a style "Blue" and use it and create Create Caption Preset "Preset Blue," and also create a style "Red." If I select Preset Blue and then, before clicking Create Captions, I change the style to Red, it creates captions with style Red. If I then create captions again and leave the sticky Preset Blue, the style that shows is Red. but the captions that are created are "Red."

@Kerstin Ebert,

Upgraded to 24.0.0.31

Fix confirmed:

Create Caption Preset now saves.

Changing from a style back to none does not hang.

A style is now saved with the preset.

Not fixed:

The single/double line issue remains. If settings are set as double line, as soon as a preset is saved, it changes to single. If the preset is elected and the lines are changed to double, the captions created are single line.

As expected:

Preset used is sticky to the next use.

Individual settings (char max, min duration, gap, sgl/dbl) are not sticky; they come from the selected preset.

New observations:

I concluded previously that Text Styles were sticky when they were not saving with the preset. What is actually happening is that when a preset is selected, and then a style is selected, that style shows as selected the next time. But the style was not in fact used. If the same preset is reselected from the presets drop-down, the actual style then shows.

Not really a problem, but I'll note it. Created C1 and renamed, created c2 and renamed, created c3 and renamed, but when I hit enter after C3 rename, the name does not change. Turns out I renamed it to the same as C1, so it did not change. No error; just no change.

Hi Stan,

we just put the fix into the 24.0.0x30 Beta version for the bug you mentioned. Now you should be able to create a custom caption preset without a problem.

Best,

Kerstin

Thanks for flagging this, Stan. We've done some bug fixing around caption presets (for the bugs you mentioned in the other post) and this might be a fallout of this. I will log a bug so we can fix this right away.

Thanks,

Kerstin
