Standard Adobe DV25 AVI files very long import time and bad performance with CC2025

I have big problems with the Adobe DV25 (PAL SD) AVI files since version version cc2023.3 and higher.

(Including cc2025)

When I try to import a long DV25 file (> 1hour) it takes forever to get it imported in Premiere.

Premiere freezes for minutes.

When I import these files in cc2023.3 it's there in a second.

Note I see this with several new installed sytems!

steps

try to import a classic DV25 avi file with a longer play duration

result

Premiere freezes several minutes, while using 100% diskread.

The only fix I had was installing CC2023.3 but that's not anymore available in creative suite!!

Just confirmed this.

This problem is fixed is cc2025.4 beta!

Also AME is very fast now with AVI files!

Good work Adobe team!

@MisterAdvent AME Beta?

Color me suprised.  Just loaded a 17GB NTSC-DV AVI, from an external (slower) SD ard and it loaded instantly. No delays in changing properties either.  This seems to be fixed in AME 25.4 build 19.

I like to do those from an external drive (since they're one-offs for me), but I have to put them on my super-speedy SSD array and it's tolerable.

@MisterAdvent It is possible to work in 2025... if it is a matter of 100% load. From what storage device do you read the video?

For now, the fastest way to be able to work with AVI files is to install Premiere CC2024.1.

It can be installed along CC2025.

With CC2024 you can fast edit or convert AVI files.

@MisterAdvent Look in the Task Manager, there is 100% memory and storage usage. Any new step and the video is loaded into memory again. This has been the case for many years, no one is going to fix anything.

This sounds like a similar problem I have with longform DV AVI (NTSC 480i60) and Adobe Media Encoder.  I drag a file into AME and wait 5 minutes or more for it to be ready to render.  If I do it in CS6 it's almost immediate (but it's so much faster on the editor with CC2025 and the fast GPU).  I've seen it in all beta and current release builds.  Handbrake is faster to encode.

Once it's in AME,  if I go to edit settings, it has to read the whole file again before it allows setting adjustment. I rarely bring these files into Premier (VHS transfers), so I'll have to check one.

This problem is still there with CC2025.3 beta.

Please test with big DV AVI files > 2GB via network from a server.

Note i use native DV 25 AVI files created with earlier versions of Premiere.
