Yes, it’s another new bug introduced recently by Gainsight (the company that maintains the forum software). As ​@Peru Bob has already mentioned, it’s always best to click on the latest reply as it will take you to, well, the latest reply (which otherwise is impossible to identify). Sadly, very few users will ever discover this functionality as the latest reply link doesn’t appear as a clickable object.

Control (command) click does open in a new tab if you click on the latest reply:
