Program Monitor not writing Scale/Rotation keyframes for Essential Graphics (v26.2.2)

  • May 12, 2026

When animating a shape layer (Essential Graphics) using on-screen transform controls in the Program Monitor, Scale and Rotation keyframes are not written, even when keyframing is enabled.

  • Position keyframes work ✅
  • Scale / Rotation do NOT persist ❌
  • Values do not update in the Transform panel
  • Changes revert when scrubbing

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a shape layer (Essential Graphics)
  2. Enable keyframes for Position, Scale, Rotation
  3. Move playhead
  4. Adjust shape using on-screen controls (scale or rotate)

Expected

Scale and Rotation should update and create keyframes

Actual

Only Position updates; Scale/Rotation are ignored

Version

Premiere Pro 26.2.2

Impact

Breaks on-screen animation workflow for graphics layers and slows editing significantly

Workarounds Attempted (not successful)

  • Rebinding keyframes (toggle on/off)
  • Resetting workspace
  • Re-selecting layers
  • Recreating shape layer

Request

Please investigate the Program Monitor → Essential Graphics transform pipeline, specifically:

  • Property binding for Scale and Rotation
  • Keyframe write-back from UI interactions

    Hi @4669738169038xm54,

Thanks for your report. I am able to reproduce the issue in house and have opened a ticket for investigation. When there’s a fix available to try in the beta, I’ll update this thread.

In the meantime, you can workaround this issue by using the hottext values to change the values for scale and rotation in the Effect Controls panel or the Properties panel.

    Cheers,
    Theresa

    Hi @4669738169038xm54
Thanks for the detailed report and repro steps.

I have a few questions to help narrow this down:

    • Does this occur with all Essential Graphics shape layers, including those created in a brand-new project?
    • Are you adjusting the shape using the Program Monitor's on-screen handles, or through the Essential Graphics/Properties panel?
    • Do you know if manually changing the Scale and Rotation values in the panel creates keyframes correctly?
    • Is the behavior limited to shape layers, or does it also occur with text layers inside Essential Graphics?
    • What operating system are you using?

    To confirm my understanding:

    • Position keyframes are created and persist correctly.
    • Scale and Rotation can be adjusted visually in the Program Monitor.
    • However, no keyframes are written for Scale or Rotation, the panel values do not update, and the changes are lost when scrubbing.

    Is that accurate?

Could you provide a short screen recording showing the Program Monitor interaction alongside the Properties/Essential Graphics panel? That would make it easier to determine whether the issue is specific to keyframe creation, property binding, or UI refresh behavior.

    Here to help

Does this occur with all Essential Graphics shape layers, including those created in a brand-new project?
Yes, any adjustments made to shape layers (on screen), are not writing.

Are you adjusting the shape using the Program Monitor's on-screen handles, or through the Essential Graphics/Properties panel?
I am adjusting using the on-screen handles. Making changes from the essential graphics properties panel records as normal.

Do you know if manually changing the Scale and Rotation values in the panel creates keyframes correctly?
Yes, manual changes from the properties panel are recording keyframes correctly. Though this method impedes workflow speed.

Is the behavior limited to shape layers, or does it also occur with text layers inside Essential Graphics?
Not limited to shape layers. Text layers inside essential graphics are also affected. Text layer however records changes to scale, but not rotation.

What operating system are you using?
    Windows 11.
    11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11700 @ 2.50GHz   2.50 GHz.
    64.0 GB RAM.

Yes, correct. In previous versions, when working with a shape i.e Circle/ Oval, Rectangle, when changing the dimensions of the shape on screen, it would record the changes to the shape. For example, I have drawn a Rectangle on-screen with the rectangle tool and have turned on keyframe recording for Position and Scale and scrubbed forward on the timeline and made adjustments on-screen to the shape to make it a square. There was no change in the ‘scale’ size of the object, but changes to the shape itself. Older versions used to record those changes to the shape, but the current version does not.
