Direct2D Drawbot error when a want change the font in the character menu

When I have text selected and try to change the font in the Character panel, I get an error message saying “After Effects warning: drawbot2 error,” so I can't change the font.

I’ve tried all the tips online, but nothing changes. I installed the latest After Effects update, but that didn’t help. I installed a new graphics driver and then an older one, but that didn’t help either.

I haven’t done anything out of the ordinary.

Hello, after looking into it, this is indeed a bug caused by the Monotype Connect app. If I disable Adobe Fonts in the Creative Cloud desktop preferences, there’s no problem, but as soon as I enable them, the bug appears, and I can’t change the font.

    Hi @patrick_frame,

Thank you for reporting this issue. What version of After Effects are you currently using when you encounter this error? And do you have any fonts synced from Adobe Fonts?

A log file from After Effects would helpful for us to diagnose what’s happening. Please follow these steps:

    1. Select Help > Enable Logging inside After Effects
    2. Relaunch After Effects when prompted
    3. Try changing a font in the Character panel
    4. Navigate to C:\Users\<yourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\After Effects\<version>\logs in Explorer
    5. Share the “After Effects Log.txt” file in that location.

Thanks again for reporting this issue, and for any further information.

I couldn't wait—I had an assignment due—so I tried to figure out what was causing the problem and ended up uninstalling my Monotype Connect font manager. I'd never had any issues with it before, since I've been using it for a long time. Before that, I used Extensis Connect. But maybe the latest updates are causing bugs. Since I uninstalled it, I can’t get the log file.

Once I finish my assignment, I’ll reinstall it and copy the bug log.

    Thanks
