Premiere Pro won't open/crashes on launch

Every time I open Premiere Pro, immediately after the splash screen shows up I get a screen that says an error occured.

I have already sent the crash report to Adobe, but I'm not sure how long it is supposed to take. I think it has been a week now since this started happening.

I have tried deinstalling and installing again, also with older versions. I noticed the same happens for Media Encoder, but not for Photoshop.

Since this is on my work laptop, I have also had our IT services take a look and they tried several things but no luck so far.

Any ideas on what the issue could be?

I have a client that is experiencing exactly this issue.

We’ve tried Re-installing Premiere, Video Card Drivers, rolling back to a previous version, but it doesn’t matter what we do, Premiere (and After Affects) crashes on launch during the Initializing Application phase.

We can’t use the Shift or Alt option to bring up the dialog box to clear cache or disable plugins (I don’t think they are using any third-party plugins anyway) because it crashes at that point, the dialog box is visible but not usable.

I’ve sent the Crash report in and looked at the dump file myself, but it seems like an internal bug in something used by both Premiere and After Affects.

The info I could get from the Dump File included this line:

“ERROR_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000710 - A threadpool worker thread is impersonating a client, after a callback to 0x%p(0x%p). This is unexpected, indicating that the callback is missing a call to revert the impersonation.”

That seems like an internal error that Adobe will need to fix and not something we can resolve with driver updates or clearing preferences.

I’d be keen to here of any progress anyone makes in resolving this issue.

    @AusArcher,

See this page for a manual preferences reset. Rename the folder. You can then still access/restore the preferences there.

    https://helpx.adobe.com/in/premiere/desktop/troubleshooting/preferences-and-settings-issues/reset-preferences-using-the-preferences-folder.html

I can’t find a link to resetting cache. Here’s where they are in windows (renbame or delete the whole folders; they get recreated as needed):

    C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common

Here’s a post from Matt on disabling plugins manually:

    Hi Stan,

Thanks for the reply and links. I’ve reviewed each of these and can confirm the following:

    1. The User must not have any custom preferences configured, as the folder specified for storing preferences does not exist on the system.
    2. The Cache Folders have been deleted or emptied, the problem still persists.
    3. The Plugins folder only contains the standard CC_LIBRARIES extension folders, which the linked post says specifically should be left alone.

So unfortunately, none of that helps and the problem persists for my client.

I’m open to any other suggestions, at this point I’ll try just about anything to get this working.

@C1006 I’m sorry that’s happening. Often, crashing on launch has to do with a problematic third-party plugin. Can you try holding the Shift key, then clicking on Premiere’s icon to launch it? That should open the Reset Options dialog. There you can check the box to “Disable third-party plugins” for the next launch. Does Premiere launch okay after you do that?

When you send the crash report, it is collected into a database where it is analyzed and we look for trends, but we don’t generally respond to individual reports. That said, if you add your email address to the crash report submission, and then DM me which email address you entered, I can pull up your exact report and see if there’s a clue.

I have the same problem. Even holding Shift or Shift Alt the reset dialog box pops up for a split second and disappears so I can’t clear cache or anything either. Have uninstalled and reinstalled, restarted and nothing.

@mattchristensen1 I sent you a DM with the email address I entered for the crash report.

Also I tried holding Shift, but when the reset options dialog opens it's not responding at all so clearing or disabling anything doesn't work for me either sadly.
