firefly can't read

Here is the prompt:

super hero who knits socks as his super power with white hair, 50 years old, no beard. Remove the beard. NO BEARD, no facial hair!

All I get is a santa figure with a white beard.

Even if I remove the white hair, I get a beard.  As though all 50 year old men have beards.  Even when I say NO BEARD!!!!!

You could teach Firefly to read.

Better yet, you could allow us to click on a photo and then request for alterations to that photo.

As it is, Firefly is lightyears behind Chat GPT for creating images.  At leaste ChatGPT allows you to alter the current image.  With Firefly, you have to change the prompt to try and get a new result and it may or may not use some of the things you like from the older version.

I did try to use the remove tool to select the beard and put in the prompt to "remove beard" but Firefly just replaced the beard with another beard.  So apparently shaving is against firefly's rules.

Hello @Jared Platt 2,

Thank you for your message. I am sorry you are having this problem.

The model does not understand the concept of a word being negated by the word in front of it. So using "not [X]", "no [X]", "exclude [X]", "with no [X]", and "without [X]" does not work. As you observed, it ignores the negation word and adds to the image the thing you are trying to avoid.  You basically need to find "positive" words and phrases telling the model what you want to see rather than telling it what you do not want to see.  Such as "flat land" rather than "no mountains" or "desolate" rather than "no people".  If I am not sure how to describe something I want to exclude in a positive way, I will ask Google Gemini or ChatGPT for ideas.  Just be aware that when they give prompts, they are usually too wordy and conversational, so you have to edit them, but they are good for ideas.

I will add that beards appear to be a special case. They are very hard to get rid of. You can see here that even with this long prompt, not all the images are without beards:

clean-shaven smooth-face fresh-face clear-chin bare-faced youthful man looking in distance

Adobe is aware of the beard problem and hopefully we will have a fix soon.

On the good news, it looks like in Model 4, negative prompting will return based on the keynote at Adobe MAX. There is no definitive timeline for its release, but something to look forward to. If you missed the keynote on October 14, you can view it here: Adobe MAX Opening Keynote.

Thanks,

Well, still, the goal should be to be able to have a conversation with
Firefly and tell it how to adjust the image you are currently looking at.
Like you would an artist in your studio. "I like the outfit, but the
person should be younger and with a clean shaven face." Then the AI,
should take that and change the face but leave the body and outfit the
same. The problem you have now, beside the fact that it has a hard time
with negative instructions, is that it keeps throwing up completely new
stuff and you can subtly change anything. Even with a style reference, it
will keep manufacturing new things instead of making subtle adjustments.

Hey @Jared Platt 2
To add a bit to what @droopydog500  mentioned.

Prompt
super hero Male face, gray hair,

>>It took a few attempts. If you have a bad "seed" start new.

Tips
1) Firefly does not like negative prompts. Ask specifically for what you want.
1a) Keep the prompts short.
1b) Find an image you like use it as a Composition Ref. Revise your prompt (build on the image).

2) Go to Adobe Stock. Find an image you can licence. Download and use as a Composition Ref.
You give Firefly something to work with and use as a guide.
>Side note<
A lot of images on Adobe Stock have images of men w some sort of facial hair. This could be the reason for the facial hair.

3) Take a look at the tags used in Adobe Stock. Use those tags in your prompt.

Cheers

O. Nate
