Nano Banana in PNG format

Hello Adobe Firefly Team,

I’m writing to report an issue with the image generation output format on Firefly (https://firefly.adobe.com/generate/image).

Until recently, when using models such as Nano Banana Pro and the regular Firefly image generator, the output images were provided in PNG format, which preserved full quality without compression artifacts.

However, starting today, all generated images are delivered only in JPEG format, which applies lossy compression and results in noticeably lower image quality. I’ve attempted to specify PNG output directly in the prompt text, but this does not affect the format — the system still returns JPEGs.

Could you please advise whether there is a way to force PNG output for generated images? If this is a temporary change or a bug, I would appreciate any insight on when the PNG option will be restored. If there is a specific parameter or setting I can use, please let me know.

Thank you for your help!

I do not know why this was changed, I have asked. But the image format used for a generation is not something that can be changed in a prompt. It creates all generations using the format it is programmed to.

I have moved this post to feature requests as what you are asking for now is a feature to allow you to select the format used in the resulting image.

    Hello,

Thank you very much for looking into this and for moving the post to feature requests — I really appreciate it.

I checked further and noticed that FLUX 2 PRO has also been switched to JPEG format. At first, I assumed this change might have been made on Google’s side, but it seems it was implemented on the Firefly side instead.

Nano Banana (non-PRO) is still generating PNG files, but unfortunately it does not meet my workflow requirements — I specifically need Nano Banana Pro.

In addition, the JPEG compression appears to be quite strong, and the image quality has noticeably decreased. For my professional work, PNG output is essential. Without it, I’m currently unable to use Firefly, and this has paused my workflow 😏.

Could you please let me know if there is any estimated timeline for restoring PNG output, or if this is being actively considered?

Thank you again for your help.

    Hi @lutere5,

I am not sure what drove this change. I see Google is still generating PNGs. I will ask again.
