When adding properties to essential graphics, can it auto switch to the comp you are adding it from,  I cant think of any reason to not do that? you cant even add them to the wrong comp panel.

This is actually a required workflow if you want to create an Essential Property - THIS, being the ability to drag a property from a nested composition’s timeline into the EGP. Once this routine is completed, nesting the Primary Composition (the comp with the EGP you just worked on) into another composition allows you access to the property you DRAGGED into the EGP. This property is AKA, Essential Property - so, yeah, it’s AKA Essential a PITA for neurons in the brain.

So, if each time you dragged a property from a timeline to the EGP, the EGP’s Primary Comp auto-switched to the source of the property, you would never be able to create an Essential Property. You see - this is why some folks can’t have nice things.  :-D

Currently it only does this if there isn’t already a comp selected in the Essential Properties drop-down menu right?

100% agree and I posted the same request here a year or so ago. Maybe the mods can merge them and combine upvotes for greater visibility and prioritization… It makes zero sense for this one and only panel to actively target the non-active comp.
