AE New Features Must Haves

Hi Guy's

Just listing some things that are must haves in todays workflow

1) All effects HAVE to be at 32 bits. I cannot understand how or why effects like Bezier warp or gradient wipe are still at 16bits. Not to mention Match Grain and Mesh warp which is an absolute essential. There are a lot of tools used in basic compositing which are still lying about in 19bits, whicgh was ok 10 years ago, but its just impossible to work like this now. Every project is in linear. Every project is worked on at 32 bits with the exception of web based motion graphics stuff (or other material ?) where you can still work on on 16bits or even 8bits in some cases. I mean you still have an effect called "Ellipse" which pretty much does what the name denotes...and thats at 32 bit...I mean people can just draw a shape layer wth 100 times the functionality then this effect...I honestly cant fathom how "Ellipse" is at 32bits and Match grain is still at 16bits. If anyone in the AE community still has a good reason to even use "Ellipse" please let me know...I'll be facinated to hear it

2) Roto brush goes for a complete toss when working in ACES - The typical workflow for me working in ACES inside of AE currently is as follows.

(a) Project Settings set to 32bit>linearize working space>ACEScg Working space

(b) Interpret footage > color management > "Preserve RGB" on

(c) Adjust ment layer with OCIO plugin>Input = ACEScg (or ACES2065-1)-Output = sRGB (or .Rec709)

Unless I am doing something wrong here (and if I am I would be really greatful if someone can point out a better way of doing it), with these settings rotobrush does not lik the "preserve RGB" on option. It does not seem to understand the edges. It s more heavier and slower resource wise and every frame is a redo no matter what settings you tweak inside of roto brush. Keying anything is also problematic. Neither Key light or Primatte give as robust a key with preserve RGB on.

I understand thaat the Beta version has a better OCIO pipeline, but I'm honestly scared to use the Beta right now on a working project due to the usual super tight deadlines (a curse for everyone in this business)

I would encourage other users to add to this as well...Let Adobe know whats important...Tell them to stop working on "Ellipse" and get Match Grain etc upto snuff 😛

they do, but thanks to being owned by shareholders, they cannot. if you actually read the laws of what it means to have shareholders- the long and short of it is... if your new business venture or move works poorly, your shareholders may turn you in as an economic criminal.

That's what happens when you trade away your rights and ownership for a quick cash infusion for your company. basically, shareholders can vote to get rid of you, and you have a legal obligation to "act in the shareholder's best interest". The rules are so vague, they open you up to being a criminalized for adhering to ethics, paying a living wage, and engaging in fair business competition. It is literally illegal, and considered fraud, if the CEO does not immediately bring in profits for their sharholders. (yes, it is EXACTLY the same as suing a company whose stock you own because you lost money on it)

There is only one real loophole in all of this. You cannot be charged with acting in anyone's interest... if you do not act at all.
and so we have a cowardly CEO. He'll let it crash and burn if it means people can say "it was no one's fault", but it's even more insidious, seeing as he makes more money the longer he waits to do something without spending on development.

That's why we hate supscription models and shareholders. because the company is free to trade goodwill, work ethic, and customer relations for money, and shareholders would otherwise never see the benefit of goodwill, work ethic, or customer relations. Adobe sold their soul and now we just have to watch the shareholders eat them alive.

Wow...thats revealing...thanks for sharing the clip

I wonder if Adobe knows its sitting on potential opportunity to be a real competitor to Nuke and Fusion if just fixes certain basic things instead of sitting in its comfort zone.

1. we've been asking for a decade. no dice. they shut down the uservoice forum where they were asking for suggestions, so... looks like that's not happening.
2. you're probably doing it right, AE is probably doing it wrong, as usual.

ahaa yeah, getting them to do anything but make keyframes colorable is a lost cause. I truly think, after 30 years, actually updating AE is a lost art. they can only add to it, like taking a steamboat and adding a bunch of little speed boat motors, with flex-seal™ to patch the edges.
