Enable Track Matte selection by Expressions

I am building an automated system, where I need to connect a lot of layers each to their own Track Matte. I can think of an expression that takes the layer names and link all to a Track Matte with a related name.

Unfortunately Track Matte selection is not possible via Expressions.

Would be great to have!

Unfortunately, Layer names are not accessible by expressions, but they are accessible by the Source Text of a text layer. I have not played with that Idea in scripting, but I have written scripts that change background colors based on one or more characters in a text layer's name. There may be a path to solving your problem there.

    Hi Rick,

Layer names are ‘accessible’, since expressions can read those.

But I was not asking about layer names, I want to set the Track Matte layer by expressions.

And yes, when asking for a feature, in general, it does not exist yet ;-)

This is what I would like to set with Expressions:

I meant the layer names in the Track Matte settings in the timeline, not layer names in general. I would like both the track matte layer names available in expressions and the layer names in effects, such as Set Matte or other effects that let you access a layer's properties from a layer name list. You cannot Alt/Option-click any of them to write an expression or add them to an Essential Graphics list or MOGRT.
