FEATURE REQUEST: Smart Batch Import and Batch Replace for importing CG assets / Render Passes

As senior motion graphics designer and vfx artist that works with 3D render passes on a daily basis, I dont know why you dont already have a way to batch import image sequences and batch replace new versions in a comp. Most 3D artists use render passes nowadays. And importing each render pass can become really really tedious. I have to use scipts to batch import. When I think, it should just be built into After Effects. This does not seem like a huge request that would require rebuilding AE fromt the ground up, because there are already scripts out there that can do it. But they are expensive and some don't work properly. Also most people don't know about them. It would be a big win for CG compositors everywhere, if you could just add this feature in. Could be a script if that makes avoiding changes to the whole import window. However, it seems to me that when you import media there could be a checkbox or button that makes batch import possible, just like we can tell it to import as image sequence. What this feature should do, is allow the user to click on the footage folder (We always render our render passes as image sequences to a folder because thats just the way setting a render location works). When you click on the folder, it checks for image sequences and is smart enough to know based on the naming conventions (Because when your render passes they usually just add "_PassName_" to the file name). The batch import script usually just knows that each _Name_ is a different sequence and they all get imported to the same location as separate image sequences. And then the next most common thing we do, is render new versions and impor them. But option replacing every single pass is very tedious as well. I have not found a batch importing script that successfully replaces the whole group automatically even though i have seen the function part of the script window. So I would love it if we could just select the entire group of render passes and click "Replace" and it would automatically replace the footage with the same "_PassName_". Would save so much time. It would also make every single compositor who works with 3D CG media jump out of their seat and cheer "Yesss!" and do the clenched fist elbow down reverse fist pump gesture. Super easy big win for After Effects!

the ability to drag footage folders into AE would be nice. But for people who work with 3D renders, the import process I am explaining is something that we do every day. Probably the most time consuming part of my job. Because 3D renders always have render passes nowadays. we rarely work with anything that is just the "Beauty" pass. Each Day we address notes and render new versions of shots. and then the next morning the first thing I do is import all my renders from the previous night so that I can update my shots and get them out for review. People are always chomping at the bit to see the revisions they asked for in the mornings. and for a lot of artists, importing and replacing media takes a long time. This would make that process so much quicker and empower a lot of artists to update shots so much quicker.

I'm totally behind improving the import capabilities. There is also lots to be gained in general regarding how import works even for 'normal' footage/filetypes. The fact that we still can't drag folders into AE instead of the import dialog is also a pita.
