IDEA : Allow toggle function to open pre-comps in the same timeline tab rather than opening new ones

I've always wanted a feature to toggle on and off whether pre-comps in a master comp will "open in place" in that tab in the timeline. I find scrolling through all the comps at the top of the timeline is messy and frustrating when you are going in and out of pre-comps often.

So my suggestion would be if a comp is opened from the project panel everything that's opened from inside there stays in that tab. That way if you do want that comp open you can do it from the project panel but it doesn't create unnecessary clutter.

Premiere Bins have a similar functionality where they can be "opened in place"

Then there can still be an option to make a new tab from that pre-comp if you right-click and make

one but the default setup is "opening in place"

Maybe I'm the only one but that would make me happy

I think you've misunderstood me.

The only comparison to bins in Premiere is that the folders open inside themselves and my parallel in AE would be that if you double-click pre-comps in a master comp, After Effects wouldn't create a new tab in the timeline but just open that pre-comp in the same tab it is in.

Then when you are moving in and out of pre-comp stacks you don't have unnecessary tabs created.

Hope that gives more clarity, I'm not sure how else to describe that.

Are you requesting that After Effects have a dedicated panel for Folder and Sub-Folders in a project?

This would mirror what happens in Premiere Pro with Bins; however, this has no direct relationship in Premeire Pro to whether or not Sequences are nested or not.
