In-App Spell Check and Misspelling Correction for Text Layers
After Effects In-App Spell Check and Misspelling Correction for Text Layers:
Feature Summary
Please add a built-in spell-checking and misspelling correction system to Adobe After Effects for text layers.
After Effects is frequently used to create title sequences, advertisements, social media content, lower thirds, presentations, and motion graphics containing large amounts of text. However, there is currently no convenient way to identify spelling mistakes directly inside the application.
Proposed Functionality
The feature could automatically detect misspelled words inside text layers and provide:
- A colored underline beneath possible misspellings
- Right-click spelling suggestions
- One-click word replacement
- “Ignore,” “Ignore All,” and “Add to Dictionary” options
- Support for multiple languages
- The ability to enable or disable spell checking
- A project-wide spelling review panel
- The option to scan all compositions and text layers for errors
Why This Feature Is Needed
Spelling mistakes in motion graphics are easy to overlook, especially when working with:
- Large projects containing many compositions
- Multiple text layers
- Fast client revisions
- Captions and subtitles
- Foreign-language content
- Templates containing editable text
- Small or animated typography that is difficult to review
Currently, users often need to copy text into another application, such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or an online spell checker, and then paste it back into After Effects. This interrupts the workflow and increases the possibility of formatting errors or missed corrections.
Suggested Workflow
When a user enters text into a text layer, After Effects could underline suspected misspellings. The user could right-click the word to view suggested corrections or open a dedicated Spell Check panel to review every text layer within the project.
A project-wide option would be especially valuable because text may be hidden inside pre-compositions, Essential Graphics templates, or duplicated compositions.
Benefits
This feature would:
- Reduce embarrassing spelling mistakes in final exports
- Improve quality control
- Save time during client revisions
- Keep the entire text-review process inside After Effects
- Improve workflows for motion designers, editors, agencies, social media teams, and template creators
Spell correction is a standard feature in many writing and design applications. Adding it to After Effects would provide a meaningful quality-of-life improvement for anyone creating text-based motion graphics.
This feature exist already in Photoshop and illustrator; why not add it to after effects as well.
