Mask support for EXR

I can't draw a mask on an EXR file. (I can, but no effect)

Bug or do I something wrong? Or just not featured?

It's a bug most likely. I've been on a warpath trying to get adobe to add a native EXR decoder but to no avail. we're stuck with an old addon that just doesn't work that well, and after over a decade it's barely compatible with AE any more.

Workaround:

Draw your Mask.

put an "Set Matte" FX on the footage; choose "Take Matte from Layer" (use this Layer) and set "Masks".

Use for Matte: Alpha Channel

I think that's simply a bug. Extractor has been acting weird for the last few releases. If it's an option, simply pre-compose the extracted image before masking. Feel free to contact FNord.

just put an (multilayer!) EXR to an comp and draw a mask on it. It has no effect... yeah, but you are right: I always use the EXtractoR fx on it. Without that fx it works...

so my guess is now, I have to write to the maker of the Plugin? Or has Ae it's own extracor tool?

You need to be more specific and provide info on your system, the EXR files, possibly which channels/ passes you are working on screenshots, project settings etc..
