Option to replace nulls with voids

When prepping files for other users, or working on files from other AE artists, a folder full of null objects is simply a “mess on the floor” we could really do without.

I recently had a project come in to get cleaned up that had HUNDREDS of nulls. If the nulls were simply shape voids, they wouldn’t even be in the project manager and would really tidy up the project and reduce the risk of a link being broken by someone along the pipeline accidentally cleaning up too much in the project manager.

alternatively, an option to ‘hide nulls in project manager’ would nearly achieve the same effect.

please.

and thank you.

The behavior of "Null" objects has always been disastrous. Logically, they should function like reference layers; a Null object has an option to keep its outlines visible even when the layer isn't selected.

As for the coordinate system with the [0,0] point located at the top left…

It is a never-ending source of problems.

The Layer command creates "Null" objects with an anchor point centered at 50/50!

Is this finally a sign that they’ve realized the issue?

I agree that the [0,0] null positioning has always been an annoyance. It seems to be ‘legacy-linked’ to NTSC standards - or tied to the position challenges of mixing layerSpace & worldSpace.

When creating voids, as a way to avoid nulls, I am always glad they are linked to the center/anchor point - it makes moving them around so much more intuitive.
