Recover CC Compositing default settings

Updating from AE 26.0 to 26.5 I found out that the CC Composite effect default settings changed. I found it very useful to have it’s layer default selection to itself but you could always select any other layer from the dropdown menu list, and it’s been like this forever. Now, it’s pointing to “none”, so no layer is selected by default, you need to search in the dropdown menu list, which is pretty time consuming if you are working in a pretty complex comp.

I don’t know the reason behind this random minute change, but I think it should go back.

Cheers!

Hi @jordi_leon,

Thank you for posting this request. You should find that setting the Top Layer to “None” in the CC Composite effect in AE 26.5 produces the same pixels as setting it to the current layer explicitly. Please let us know if you aren’t seeing this behavior.

This behavior was updated in 26.3 so that the CC Composite effect to be copy/pasted between layers and saved with presets while retaining a relative reference to the current layer.

Cheers,

Hi, John! Thanks for your quick response.

You are absolutely right. I don’t know what happened in the previous project I was working on or what did I do wrong, but I just tried again today with a new project and it works just like you described. The dropdown menu points to none but it’s producing the same layer’s pixels, just like if I selected the layer itself on the list. I’m glad it’s working this way!

Thank you! And sorry for this misunderstanding. You can archive my request.

Cheers!
