Software Rendering Indicator

Problem

For various reasons After Effects reverts to Software Rendering mode in Project Settings.. and sometimes it takes way too long before I figure out that's what's been slowing down my renders.

Idea/Suggestion

It would be very nice if there was a tiny icon or something in the viewport, something that quickly alerts me to the fact that software rendering is turned on.

That way, if for example I open someone else's project, I'll be quickly reminded that software rendering is turned on, instead of having to remember to go into Project Settings and check.

Thanks! I had no idea that was what the rocket indicated. That's perfect.

Hi @jonkristinsson,

Thanks for making this request! I think this may be implemented already—an icon indicating whether a project is using software or GPU rendering is already present in the Project panel. It is represented by a small rocket in the bottom bar of the Project panel.

GPU:

Software Only:

You can also click directly on the icon to open up Project Settings to the Video Rendering & Effects tab to toggle the setting.

Cheers,
