Updated Flowchart View

With the advent of Master Properties and Data-based footage, a refreshed Flowchart View would be a welcome update to help us manage the piping, parenting and referencing that is now possible with the bi-directional push and pull flows of information between Comps and Precomps.

This is NOT a request for node-based compositing, but rather a node-based viewpoint that can allow us to organize and unravel comps that can quickly become much more complicated.

I think this is close enough that I'll add this to yours vs starting my own:

Being able to view (or not, of course) effects with drop-downs that reference other layers as part of the flowchart view seems useful. If there are 10 layers all using Set Matte pointed at one particular layer, for example, this could be very helpful.

To take this even further, what about expressions, particularly ones linked to layers in other comps? Granted, both of these has the potential to be super-overwhelming visually, but could also provide some essential tools for sleuthing through the tangled web of an inherited project, troubleshooting, etc.

Perhaps color-coding could be incorporated on the connecting lines, to help differentiate links between layers, parenting, effects, expressions, MP-enabled stuff, etc.

Even updating the flowchart to how the mini-flowchart works can give great oversight in a project. See here what I mean: https://vimeo.com/137325297
