There are a few cases it would be very nice to stop this process.

For example in a folder with many large TIFF files, especially if clicked on by accident. Bridge will continue endlessly, or grey out when clicked on again.

Certainly if this folder is on an external backup NAS over the network.

Maybe there are other background processes, this would be useful for. However, this can hardly be called a background process, since Bridge is effectively inaccessible.
