P: Support for Canon .CR3 Camera-matching Profiles

There is currently zero support for .CR3 camera color profiles in Lightroom... especially since the newer Canon cameras use a .CR3 format... making it difficult to get work done. Only slightly surprised that this wasnt planned for beforehand since there still isnt a 64bit version of the adobe programs that i can use on the most current version of MacOS.

Camera matching profiles are still being made. We can't comment on the availability or timing of specific models of cameras

Has Adobe stopped making these "Camera Matching" profiles for Canon cameras? Seems to be missing from all the 3 latest cameras (with RAW support): SX70 HS, EOS RP and EOS SL3 (250d). I just want an honest answer from Adobe.

All these Cameras shoot RAW. But I don't care anymore. I'm out of here.

Don't worry about the terminology Jan, it's just so they connect with the right place internally. Adobe class problems/bugs as things that are done but aren't working as designed, and ideas/features as things that haven't been implemented yet. Support for the camera format itself is also considered a separate task from building camera emulation profiles (which are not built for all cameras).

Jan,
The reason you may not find these Camera Profiles is that the cameras themselves do not support them?

If the mode is described in the camera manual as a 'Scene' mode, these usually apply only to JPG images and Adobe has few if any 'Scene' profiles in Lightroom for JPGs.

In the online camera manuals for these 3 models only the Sony seems to possibly have the RAW profiles available?? (The Nikon does not seem to be able to take RAW photos?)

Now having said that, as you said the Canon SX70 HS does show some camera profiles for Lightroom,  but I could not find any mention of those matching modes in the online manual? Camera manufacturers do leave things out or just say 'choose shooting mode' without listing each option available.
So the same could be true for the SX70HS model?

Yes. This is not a bug and should not be posted as a problem. I have modified it so that it will be picked up by the necessary persons to affect the issue on your behalf.

You are requesting missing functionality not reporting broken functionality.  Camera Support, Lens Profiles, Tethering Support, and Profiles all fall in the "Idea" or feature request category.

Camera support is a spectrum. It can contain but not be limited to:

Preliminary support
Camera raw file support
Broad-spectrum camera-specific profiles
Tethering support
Computation imaging support

In general support rolls out with Camera raw file support first. In rare cases we offer preliminary support but call that out as it can be not-fully-tested and travel at your own risk territory.

Camera profiles often come out after initial camera support is released. It is not an unusual occurrence. Nor is it unusual for existing profiles to be refined and updated over time. Adobe provides you with a group of standard profiles for you to use so that you can process your files today.  In the not too distant past, camera-specific profiles existed for a very few cameras and were not too dialed into the in-camera shooting styles.

Tether support follows later.

Computational imaging support is another matter.

I will ask the Camera Raw team to provide additional information when available.

Did you change my post ?

Someone has edited my original post, head line and category. I don't like it. This was a “problem” for me, not an “Idea”. And it is not a request. It is an observation about a possible mistake in the application update 8.1 and 8.2.
The headline was originally:
“Lightroom Classic CC 8.2 (8.1) - Camera specific profiles are missing for newly added cameras (eg. Canon SX70 HS)”.

It was me informing Adobe about a possible problem with the application. Not a request.

Do you know that ? There are no notes about that in the ” release notes” except for the sony e6400 that notes preliminary support.
No notes for Canon SX70 HS or Nikon A1000 or Olympus OM-D E-M1X

“Note:
Preliminary support means that the image quality and raw format support for the given camera model is not yet finalized and may be updated in a future release.”

So those cameras I mentioned should have been finalised . Or?

Or they simply aren't ready yet.
