Please ditch the Creative Cloud App

I find the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app is extremely cumbersome and overcomplicates things. I wish I could update Photoshop, revert to a previous state, uninstall and reinstall etc. directly from Photoshop.

Not to mention, the CC desktop app does not work properly. If you want to keep it (which I am guessing you do), please repair it, make it work. It almost never connects to the Adobe servers, which is why I always get the updates with delay. It only works when I disable the antivirus, and only SOMEtimes. Your troubleshooting advice don't help.

So I don't want any new features in Photoshop, the app is already great. I want the CC desktop app to work and connect to the Adobe servers, so I can update in real time, not when the app wants.

There is also another issue. When I do manage to update Photoshop, it goes so slowly, it takes 2 hours. And throughout the process I always get error messages that Adove encountered an error. And I have to keep my fingers crossed for it to work, or else I lose both my previous version, and can't have the new one.

Just make it work.

Well, not to argue, but third party antivirus is known to get in the way and impact performance. Norton especially is notorious for this, but the others are not far behind. I still maintain that you don’t need it. Microsoft pour enormous resources into this, it’s directly integrated into the operating system, and it’s hard to believe that a small vendor can do any better. In reality, the market is slowly eroding for antivirus companies everywhere, because Windows Security is so effective.

The infection you got may have been a zero-day attack and you don’t know whether any third-party software would have stopped it.

To be clear, I’m not saying there can’t be bugs in the CC app. They obviously happen, and they might surface in certain configurations. But for most of us, it works seamlessly and flawlessly. So the point is, there’s not a problem with the basic architecture. If there’s a problem, it’s specific, not general. I know, that’s not very helpful right now, but blaming everything on the app itself is not the way to attack this, and it’s not going to get you any further. You need to look at your system specifically.

@Antinael you would be better off posting in the Creative Cloud Desktop forum.

This would be useless, I am afraid. This issue is already discussed there and I already tried out all solutions mentioned. So I see this now rather as an improvement, an update to fix things, and not necessarily bring new features.

There’s no real point in posting here on the Photoshop forum, as this forum is meant for questions/bug reports about Photoshop.

The engineers that look after the Creative Cloud app are not going be looking in the Photoshop forum for questions/bug reports about the CC app.

Actually it simplifies, not complicates, things. All those processes are usually baked into each individual application. Here it's lifted out of each application and consolidated into one central hub.

Those processes still have to run, one way or another.  If they don't run properly, it could be a firewall issue or local network configuration issue.

If you're on Windows, you don't need third party antivirus. I'd uninstall that. Windows handles this best natively.

The CC desktop app has no impact on performance and speed. If you have perfomance problems, this is not the reason.

I would have to contradict you :( I've had an IT engineer look at my lap to and they, as a professional, detected nothing wrong with my local network.

My firewall is disabled for years.

I am on Windows 11 and I do need an external antivirus unfortunately. Two years ago I was still without an external antivirus and my lap top got infected with a nasty virus. For me at least, the external antivirus is a must.

The IT engineer I mentioned went into the c++ of my Windows 11 to fix this error. The code change did not work, so they concluded it must be an Adobe issue, they must fix their servers.

Especially since everything worked perfectly until 1 year ago, when suddenly... the CC can't connect to the Adobe servers error.

I am not saying they should necessarily ditch it, just fix it.
