Usage Auditing - Reporting

In order to monitor the utility of these expensive licenses I'd like to be able to pull a report to show usage across the CC apps.  Knowing what users are benefiting from this license would enable us to target our spend appropriately.

Sorry, AI summary, but this is what I want too:

Problem/Opportunity

  • Problem: Admins cannot reliably determine which users actively use Animate, preventing accurate migration planning and license optimization.
  • Opportunity: Provide a targeted usage report by user for Animate, with actionable metrics, to guide communications, deprovisioning decisions, and migration efforts.

Proposed Solution

  • Add a new per-user usage reporting view for Animate within the Admin Console, scoped to the All Apps – Pro Edition – Faculty/Staff subscription.
  • Metrics to include (per user):
    • Last login date
    • Last activity date related to Animate
    • Total sessions launching Animate
    • Total active time spent in Animate (hours/minutes)
    • Number of app launches (Animate)
    • License status (assigned/unused)
    • Optional: platform (Windows/macOS), client version
  • Data sources:
    • Content logs and Adobe online services activity
    • Administrative license data to verify entitlement
  • Features:
    • Date range filtering (e.g., last 30/90/180/365 days, custom range)
    • Per-user export (CSV/Excel)
    • Scheduling of recurring reports and alerting (e.g., notify when a user has any Animate activity)
    • API access or data export for downstream tooling (e.g., MECM, SIEM)
  • Privacy/Security:
    • Access restricted to admin roles with appropriate permissions
    • Ensure data handling complies with organizational privacy policies

Acceptance Criteria

  • Admin Console exposes a new “Usage” view for Animate under All Apps – Pro Edition – Faculty/Staff.
  • The per-user table lists all users with entitlement in the target scope and includes:
    • User ID, Display name, Last login, Last activity, Sessions, Active time, App launches, License status
  • Date range filter is functional and returns accurate metrics within the selected window.
  • Export to CSV/Excel is available with clearly labeled columns.
  • Ability to schedule regular reports and configure alerts for activity thresholds.
  • Data matches content logs/online service events within an acceptable latency (e.g., up to 24 hours).
  • Access is restricted to authorized admin roles; no data exposed publicly.

Out of Scope

  • Per-user usage reporting for products other than Animate (unless extended to other apps in a future release).
  • Real-time monitoring (batch/reporting cadence is acceptable unless higher latency is specified).
  • Detailed telemetry beyond what is available in content logs and admin license data.

Rationale/Value

  • Supports proactive deprecation planning for Animate with a clear view of who is affected.
  • Enables targeted communications and migration planning for impacted faculty/staff.
  • Improves license optimization by identifying underutilized licenses and informing deprovisioning decisions.
  • Reduces risk associated with abrupt discontinuation by providing data-driven insights.

Proposed Owner / Stakeholders

  • Enterprise Product/Engineering team (Admin Console capabilities)
  • Analytics/BI team for data model and exports
  • Security/Privacy governance for data access controls

Suggested Priority

  • High, given impending discontinuation and need for migration planning.

Notes

  • If per-user usage data cannot be provided directly in the Admin Console, propose an API or data-export path from Content Logs/Admin data lake to support custom reporting workflows.

This would be tremendously helpful. As admins and product owners we're constantly asked about app usage. Our only solution is surveys which isn't great.

I just opened a ticket and referred me to feature request. But this would help my team out a lot. We could use these reports against our terminated users list and get back licenses. As well as work with users to make sure they're assigned the right tools.

Following up on this.  Based on the cost of the products and the licenses that we have, I would like to know what users are using and how much.  It would benefit on cost and resource analysis.
