P: Bring back the ability of Enhance to run in the background. (LrC)

I just updated to Lightroom Classic 14.4 and although I do like the fact that I can Denoise without creating a DNG file, I still would like the option to select a series of images and menu: Photo>Enhance... to let it create dngs in the background which enables me to work on other images while it;s doing those. Currently, in 14.4 it takes a long time, especially if I have multiple images that I am denoising and I cannot do anything elese while it's doing that process. Is there still a way possible to do it the old previous way of creating a DNG Denoised file? Seems like an oversight when implementing this new way and slows down my whole workflow.

@D.L. Dietz: " if the bug did not exist would the catalog dramatically increase in size?"

Absent the bug with Automatically Write Changes to XMP, or with that option turned off, the size of the .lrcat file (the main catalog database) wouldn't change in size.  The size of the .lrcat-data file (where computed AI settings are stored) would increase from typically 5 to 50 MB per denoised photo, much more for Super Resolution.

Regarding the AI Denoise Bug - if the bug did not exist would the catalog dramatically increase in size?  I just got done removing and reimporting the 262 photos I used AI Denoise on and my catalog is back down to 1,986,140KB from a high of 3,480,836KB.

I also noticed uding AI Denoise that my memory usage doubled and Lightroom got laggy which disappeared when I re-imported everything that the AI Denoise touched.

Erik are you a professional troll or just a gifted amateur?

This thread is for folk who have been impacted by the changes in the latest version, if you're not experiencing issues then there's no reason to post unless you're offering genuine help...which you're not. Telling folk that it works okay for you isn't helping natters is it?

When you say, "...we want the old DNG system back...", do you mean "you want it back"?

I don't want it back so I am not one of the "we".

As far as speed goes, I just did a small sample test using modern, fast hardware. I opened 50 RAWs in ACR, selected them all and applied Denoise to all. It took 3 mins. I then pulled back the default 50% slider to 30%. That took another few seconds. So for me at least, there is no complaint about speed here.

In any case, I am still unsure why it remains so important for you to have the old DNG creation method back. Perhaps you could explain.

And I'm not just saying for Lightroom but also for Camera RAW!!!

Adobe, we want the old DNG system back now!!! We have work to do and it's not the right season for these unnecessary changes that don't help but drive us crazy with the work we have to do quickly!

Go back to previous version 🙂

There was nothing to which to answer. I was merely expressing my humble opinion which I recognise is not aligned with yours or some other users.

If it works for you then it must be okay, everyone stand down, Erik says it's okay! 🤡

@ryanc9115767, I think that was a moderation mistake. Your post has nothing to do with the feature suggestion of the original post. I'd suggest reposting in a new thread in the forum for the app you're using, with the additional information I suggested, including at the top a specific request not to merge with this unrelated feature request. But there could be signficant risk a moderator will merge that one too.
