P: Increase Supported File Dimensions

I would appreciate if LR would support images with 65k x 65k pixels (i.e. drop the overall 512M-pixel limit). I have several stiched images, that I can not handle with Lightroom, and I do not want to use two different Applications to manage my images.

P.S. and please make the limit 2^16 x 2^16 and not 65000x 56000.

Took a while to find it. I was restoring about 70,000 files when I got the message.

It is a tif file, 55765 x 15769, with a file size of 980MB. I see that the jpg version, which is 469MB, imported OK. To be honest, I created the pano 2 years ago and don't remember what I used, Photoshop maybe, since I only use a focus stacking program and a denoise ai outside of LR and PS.

I could probably live with this, but if the pano would have been a little larger, I would have had to use a degraded jpg image to get under the 512MB limit.

It looks like a previous member reported a 512MP limit, but I think it is a 512MB limit. Please correct me, if wrong.

"Still wishing for expansion of max file dimensions! Just tried to import a panaroma while restoring a library (SSD died!) and it won't restore because of the limitation!"

Please give the dimensions of the panorama and describe how it was created, so Adobe will understand better why you want larger maximums.

It's not fully supporting PSB; there's still a size limitation unfortunately.

The Large Document Format (PSB) file in Lightroom Classic supports documents up to 65,000 pixels in long edge and a maximum dimension of 512 megapixels.

Yet in Photoshop: The Large Document Format (PSB) supports documents up to 300,000 pixels in any dimension.

As of about a year ago, LR can handle PSB files but has the other limits you mention. Which is stopping you, the PSB format or the 512 megapixel/65k width limitation?

We are in violent agreement! This has been a request for many years. Indeed, Adobe should be able to handle their own proprietary format in Lightroom.

I'm frustrated that I am not able to import larger PS files (.PSB) into Lightroom Classic.  I would like to work on the files in Lightroom, but there is limit on file size (512megapixel or 65K width).  I hope Adobe will consider changing this in future version so people doing larger files in Photoshop (I do multi-row panos) can import these and work with them in Lightroom.  My file was about 7.8GB I was working with and can't import this into Lightroom. I hope you will consider this in future upgrades.  thank you.

Hi there

The feature I would like to request is the lifting of the file size limit of 512 megapixels in Lightroom.

I've been enjoying the panorama merge feature in Lightroom ever since it got introduced since it provided an easy way to create very high resolution images by stiching together a small number of individual shots. Unlike some of the dedicated panorama applications (including photoshop itself) the stiching in Lightroom produces a raw file which is imminently more flexible than the usual tiff or psd file, if it weren't for the file size limit. With a camera like the GFX 100 providing up to 400 Megapixel with pixel shift alone, already a simple two image panorama merge will exceed that file size limit. Maybe there was a reason for that limit at some point, just like there might have been one for the 4GB limit on FAT32, but with camera manufacturers pushing the resolution figures it would be nice to pair those cameras with some of the proven panorama merge features available in Lightroom. Most of my images at the moment average around 1200 Megapixels, but if I invest into the GFX100 that will almost double.

And yes whenever I do go through the effort of making images that large, than to print panoramas that are up to 6 meters in width and intended to be viewed at close distances, so please don't ask me "why would you want to do that?"

It just seems like this would be the right time to lift that limit.

Thanks!

Your 4gb FAT32 comparison doesn't apply.  Almost everybody using computers, cell phones etc hit the 4gb limit but I am sure only a VERY small percentage of people hit the 512MP limit and its probably not worth the engineering time to implement.

...are you working for adobe, or are you just speculating?
