P: Set up/down arrows Keyboard Shortcuts for Culling

When culling photos before import it would be much more effectent if the "up" and "down" arrows could be set to "Include in Import" and "Unselect from Import" respectfuly. This would be SO much faster than using the "P" and "U" keys or clicking the checkbox.

Thanks!

I don't get what the difference would be. It's always a "one-click" stop.

In turn, you would not have the up/down to simply move around anymore.

Are you aware of the existing ` (tilde) shortcut? On a US keyboard at least,  the ` key toggles between Pick flag and no flag (a shortcut for Photo > Set Flag > Toggle Flag). It works in several modules and in the Import dialog box. In the Import dialog box, the ` key toggles between including and not including in import.

So the way I use the Import dialog box is in my right hand, use the left and right arrow keys to select the previous/next image; and in my left hand, use one finger on the ` key to toggle whether or not the currently selected image is going to be imported. And if I need to see a picture enlarged, it’s the same as the Library module, E (Loupe) to enlarge and G to return to Grid, and the ` key works in the enlarged Loupe view too. In this way, culling in Import can be done without touching the mouse most of the time.

I would not want to lose the ability to go up and down in the Import grid with the up/down arrow keys.

Thanks for the message. I am aware of the existing keyboard shortcuts however they are not convenient to use quickly with one hand. Maybe it seems silly, however when culling large amounts of photos being able to quickly and more effective select items would be time saving.

Are you aware that the P shortcut Includes on Import and X rejects in Import Loupe? Holding the Shift key also auto advances. The shortcuts you're looking for exist, which is another reason Adobe are unlikely to change them.

As @GoldingD  has already mentioned, Adobe is unlikely to change the keyboard shortcuts. However, you can remap them yourself using a plugin by @johnrellis who is member of this forum. More details on his plugin at:

@GoldingD Thanks for the reply! Unless I'm missing something, the up and down arrows (during photo selection in Grid View) do basically the same function as the left and right arrows do: navigating the photo list. However if you are in Loupe view and only evaulating 1 photo at a time for import, the up and down arrows don't seem to have any function I can see. While I never really thought Adobe would make any changes (lol) I just thought I'd put it out there.

@Ian Lyons Thanks for the idea, I'll take a look!

Thanks again for the response everyone! It's nice to have a community to bounce ideas and thoughts off of!

Up and Down arrows already in use. Adobe is not likely to change that, would tick off too many users. Especially as an existing keyboard shortcut already exists.
