P: Support for importing Live Photos (iOS 9, iPhone 6s)

Just got iphone 6s. One new feature is "Live Photos" which while taking a still picture also takes a 3 sec movie. When imported into Apple's Photos app each Live photo becomes 2 files, a movie file and a normal picture file that can be edited. In lightroom the imported Live photo file is only a movie file, which can"t be edited. Can this be changed in a future update so that importing also gives a normal still picture file and a movie file?

Update: The best is, when you swipe through your albums, they show you this tiny movements as you swipe. This on Lightroom and the ability to export and reimport working Live Photos to photos app on mac would be the highly demanded feature.

Sorry, but you didn't listen carefully. We are not asking for video support. We are asking for real Live Photos support. This official video explains what Live Photos are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_6tzqVk5ag
But you have to use it yourself to get to love it. : )

This is exactly what I mentioned in my comment and what I'm asking for too.

I believe the most people don't really know what Live Photos are because they don't own an iPhone with this function or whatever reason there might be. Because answering „Lightroom supports Live photos“ ist plain wrong.

So thanks, maybe your wording will help to understand better, what we are talking about when we're asking for real Live Photos support.

Importing Live photos is supported by Lightroom. However, if the device is running iOS 11 or later and photos are captured in High Efficiency format, the corresponding live photos will be HEVC encoded which are not currently supported by Lightroom. So, the live photos will not be imported, HEIC image files will be imported though.
Please note that HEIC files are supported in Lr Classic (mac only) from 7.4 release.

To capture images in a compatible format:
  1. Open the “Settings” app on the iPhone and go to “Camera”
  2. Choose “Formats” and select “Most Compatible” to capture iPhone photos in a compatible format

Reading through this thread. Can someone confirm if Lightroom Classic on desktop and Lightroom CC desktop have full compatibility with importing Live Photos? I see the phone mentioned in the title so wasn't sure if there is another thread on adding support on desktop (if it doesn't already exist), and if it supports the native files, meaning not just converting to a .mov file or something. So that if you were to export back to Apple Photos it would still be one photo and not jpeg+mov etc or such. Any insight would be most helpful. Thank you!

I agree. I bought LR6.14 specifically to improve my photo cataloguing, and am dismayed to be facing the same (ongoing) issue which has been repeatedly flagged up to Adobe and not resolved.
Have just imported about 500 photos from my iPhone, and around 20-30% have failed, with a green preview thumbnail and no image or movie file to view when opening them.
Feeling pretty ripped off.
And no, I don't want an ongoing subscription to LR7CC, particularly as it seems the issue is ongoing with that version as well.

Lightroom CC2015.14, released in December is the last update for the previous version of Lightroom. The current version is 7.3.1 and was released in April. Have you tried upgrading?  Is there a reason you are still using the older version?

I'm on Lightroom 2015.12 Build 1125239 and I'm still getting green blobs in place of my Live Photos. Is there a fix coming at all for this?

I'm not sure if it was a good idea to merge my request with this topic. First of all it is too important for me to get lost anywhere in this conversation and more importantly the topic creator here is talking about separated files which I explicitly described is not what I expect from a full working iOS Live Photo support. So, dear topic merger, did you read my whole post after all?? I don't think so. : (
So could you please dis-merge or at least point some of the requested qualified Adobe Lightroom developers in this direction to reply to this post?

Hi there,

since more than three years now, there is this great photo feature called "Live Photos" on Apple's mobile devices. But there is still no real support for Live Photos in Lightroom since then. That's a little bit weird because Lightroom claims to support nearly all common camera models with frequent camera updates still lacks support of Live Photos.

The problem is, it's not enough to just import the still image and the corresponding movie file so that in the end there two separated files which I never can't export back to the Apple photos app as an original Live Photo. The only solution is to support Live Photos in the same way they are working on an iOS device like iPhone or iPad.

What is the reason for the lack of support? Is it a legal problem. Are there unacceptable restrictions or  from Apple? What else? Because I really would like to go back fully to Adobe Lightroom but can't right now as I'm using Live Photo very often. You'll love it too especially when you have kids or a lot of action shots.

I asked google, the adobe support hotline, the german forum but no one was close enough to the Lightroom developer team to give a qualified answer. And if the answer is that not enough professionals are interested in this feature, I don't care as long as somebody qualified could give me a final explanation why it's not supported or if there will be a 1 percent chance it ever will be. And with qualified I mean somebody working at the Adobe Lightroom team.

Please excuse my english but I'm no native english speaker and this topic is a very emotional one because I really love Lightroom but it almost got useless for me because of the lack of real support for Apple Live Photos. And as long as I want to work with an all-in-one solution – to not double my amount of work – I have to stick with the very unprofessional Apple Photos app. : (

So, please Adobe, c'mon! Reach out to your (paying) supporters! Make an official statement! Pleeeeeease!!!
