P: Ability to display file names in grid display?

How do I display file names in grid display for the cloud based Lightroom CC on my desktop?   I see how to do this on the mobile version, but I'm not having any luck on the desktop one.

Thanks

Steve

Quite some time later... I'm assuming this will never be implemented in Classic.
I assume the only alternative is using CC locally? If so, is there a way to disable cloud storage and keep it local-only?

Hello Rikk,

Thank you for the release.

Do you think we will have this update on android too ?

Greetings all,

Updates for Adobe Photography products have been released.  The May updates have implemented this feature request.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Thank you for being so patient.

And this, my friends, is why I avoid Adobe products like the plague. Buggy, slow, lacking features, packed with features I don't want, and generally fighting me every step of the way.

I found this thread when I was searching for help, thinking I was just missing a setting. It was a surprise that I wasn't.

I don't understand how/why it has not made it into desktop Lightroom yet—it seems like a basic UI consideration, not even a feature. Selecting images one by one and looking at the info pane is an entirely different thing from seeing info overlays on a grid. The grid does show rating/flag, which can be useful, but things like filename, resolution, file type, date, etc. are crucial. The designers of the mobile apps clearly understood the importance, as there are a host of overlay options available in the grid view there.

@Rikk Flohr: Photography , would you be able to update us on the status of this? Is it at least in some sort of pipeline?

It's been six years since this discussion and it's still not possible to display file names on images in Lightroom Crappy Concept -- or as most photographers I know call it, Lightroom Stupid. Isn't it about time to add this high complex feature: show names and extensions?

That or make it possible to put Lightroom Classic library in the cloud on OneDrive or even overpriced Adobe Creative Cloud files so it can be used on multiple devices without jumping through hoops and doing acrobatics and practicing voodoo to see photos on other devices.

@CumberLinda

Typo on my part. 1TB cloud with Lr and Photoshop is ~ $20 a month.

Most funny thing to me is, that I can activate it in Lightoom Mobile on iOS, which shares most of the UI layout, just ordered slightly different an access the same cloud catalogue.

Why the hell isn't available on the desktop version? Available space for content on the screen can't be the problem when you allow it on an iPhone.

Victoria Bampton LR Queen - "Filenames don't really mean a lot in cloud computing, so it hasn't been considered a priority." This seems shortsighted. While filenames may not be important, names/titles are important for identification. You know that painting "Untitled" by Picasso? Yeah. Me neither. My clients identify work by name--in my case, "filename", because that is always available--until we have finished, titled pieces on the ground for distribution. Lightroom is supposed to be a workflow solution, not a pictureshow. I'm not even sure how cloud computing bears on that, except now my images can't be readily identified on any of the devices I point at the cloud.
