Hi @Ambrosial_studented1c

Thanks for sharing your workflow. I have moved you post to feature request section for other people to upvote your idea. At the moment, Lightroom doesn't have this feature. As a workaround, you could consider one of the following:

  • Use the Web module in Lightroom Classic to create a web gallery with watermarking enabled and share the gallery link with your clients for proofing no separate watermarked exports are needed.
Check this page for more detail: Add a copyright watermark.
  • Use a third-party proofing service such as ShootProof, Pixieset, or Pic-Time. These services can display watermarks on-the-fly while clients review and select their favorites.
  • Use Smart Previews with Publish Services (via supported plugins), which can publish watermarked proof versions without requiring full-resolution exports.

That said, your suggestion would make a valuable feature request. Having the ability to enable or disable watermarks for Lightroom's cloud-based shared albums would significantly simplify photographer-to-client proofing workflows while preserving the original files.

Thanks again for sharing this idea, we appreciate the feedback!

Same frustration here on the export/matching side — building a separate watermarked gallery, then trying to match up which photos the client actually picked once they came back.

Got tired enough of doing that manually that I built a Lightroom Classic plugin to solve it: ProofingGallery (enginecollective.studio/proofinggallery) — full disclosure, it's a paid product.

It exports one self-contained gallery file you send the client directly (no separate hosting or platform needed), handles watermarking and proofing together, and the client's ratings/notes come back into Lightroom once they send back a small file — no manual matching against the originals.

Doesn't help if you're on the Cloud/web side like this thread's about, but happy to answer questions if anyone's dealing with the same thing in Classic.

I had the same frustration and ended up solving it differently — I built a Lightroom Classic plugin that requires no cloud storage and no third-party platform. The client views the images, stars their favorites and leaves notes, then exports a file that imports directly back into Lightroom Classic. Happy to share more details if anyone's interested. — Jon

Saw this comment — I had the exact same frustration and ended up going a different direction entirely but still within Lightroom Classic. Happy to share more if you're interested. — Jon

Hi Adobe Team,

As a professional photographer who uses Lightroom daily to deliver client galleries, I would love to see a new feature that allows us to apply a temporary watermark directly within shared client albums — without the need to export and re-import images.

Current workflow (very time-consuming):
To share a selection gallery with a client, I currently need to:

  1. Choose my final selection for viewing.

  2. Export all images to a new folder with my watermark applied.

  3. Re-import those watermarked images into Lightroom.

  4. Create a new album called “Client Preview” and share it.

  5. Wait for the client to mark favorites (hearts) and comment.

  6. Manually compare the watermarked and original versions to identify which images were selected — then create another album with the client’s final images.

This process is unnecessarily repetitive and time-consuming, especially for photographers handling many sessions each week.

Proposed feature:
Add a simple toggle or checkbox when creating a shared album:

“Apply watermark (visible only in shared web view)”

This would automatically display the selected watermark only on the client’s web gallery, without changing or exporting the original files.
Once the client selects favorites, the photographer could simply create a new album from “client favorites” and turn off the watermark for the final download.

Benefits:

  • Saves hours of exporting/re-importing time per project

  • Prevents accidental duplicates

  • Reduces storage usage

  • Improves professional workflow efficiency

  • Keeps the client experience seamless and branded

This feature would make Lightroom an even more powerful and professional tool for photographers who deliver galleries to clients every day.

Thank you for considering this — it would make a real difference for professional users like myself.

Hi Jenny, I posted this above but thought I’d share it here directly. I had the same frustration and ended up solving it differently — I built a Lightroom Classic plugin that requires no cloud storage and no third-party platform. The client views the images, stars their favorites and leaves notes, then exports a file that you import directly back into Lightroom Classic. Happy to share more details if you’re interested. — Jon

On Exporting 336 files with watermark box selected and the details added, the watermark shows in every image in the saved folder but when I invite somebody to view them they do not see any watermark on the image.

I have deleted the exported files and tried again several times.

Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

Hi @Bruce_2025! Welcome to the community!

Unfortunately, that feature isn't available at the moment. I'll merge your thread with the main one for this suggestion on the Ideas board, where the software team often looks to see what users want. Be sure to add your vote and any additional info there.

Thank you!

Alek

Thanks for that but what’s the point in the watermarks then if they can’t be used?

Request Feature

(mobile Lightroom)

I'm posting this again today, because it appears my inquiry for the same requested feature has already been closed. in response to my inquiry about mobile, Lightroom, I was directed to information about Lightroom for desktop. I was pleased to see that users of Lightroom for desktop are able to add watermarks to images in their shared folders.

People make that watermark feature available to subscribers who use mobile Lightroom. All Lightroom subscribers deserve the opportunity to efficiently protect their images included in shared Adobe folders.
