I use the pencil tool a lot, but the shortcuts don't support mode switching for the pencil, hopefully it can be updated in the next version!

    I've moved your post to ideas rather than bugs. Holding the tilde key (or on my UK keyboard the ¬` key) works for the brush tool but not the pencil tool. Extending that functionality to the pencil tool sounds sensible to me. I've also upvoted it.
