Allow Photoshop to Work Correctly wiht More than One GPU on MacOS

I've worked through support on this issue and it is not resolved. I use a Mac Pro 2019 with two Radeon Pro W6800X MPX units (four GPUs) and one Radeon RX 6800 XT. If 'Use GPU' is checked in Settings->Performance I cannot open any file. If I un-check 'Use GPU' I can open files but some features are not available (e.g., Generative Fill, Normal Map creation) and Photoshop will not shutdown properly. I have to fource quit it. Support says, simply, Photoshop does not support multiple GPUs on MacOS.

Reporting this here in case anyone knows a workaround and in the hope we can get others with this issue to put some pressure on the devs to prioritize feature.

Please respond if you know a workaround or have the same issue.

Disable dropbox sync, and restart your Mac and try opening a file again. This was a noted issue with Dropbox on Macs.

@Kevin StohlmeyerI tried each item, in order, shutting down Ps after each and upon restarting Ps tried to open a .png file. Each time I got the same response. Ps could not complete the request because of an error. Very vague message, I know.

Support when through all these with me in a screen share but was worth another attempt. We also removed all settings and tried. Also uninstalled the current version of Ps and tried the beta version. Same response.

Hi @Gregory27652298gmcm some things to try (restart PS after each and try opening):

1. Go to Photoshop Settings/Technology Preview and check “Disable Native Canvas”.

2. Go to Settings/Performance and turn off "Multithreaded Compositing".

3. Go to Settings/Performance Advanced Settings, turn off GPU Compositing.

4. Go to Advanced Settings and turn off Use Open CL.

Let us know if any of these address the issue.

Back in 2020 there were some noted issues with the upgraded Mac Pro series with multiple GPU. As you stated turning off the GPU is not a good workaround. Some noted that resetting preferences and clearing caches (I recommend Onyx which is free and reliable) resolved.
