Automatically associate .the HIF file extension with .HEIF files

Newer Sony cameras saves HEIF images with the .HIF extension, which Photoshop currently doesn't recognice. A workaround is to replace the .HIF extension with .HEIF and Photoshop opens it as normal. It is a simple solution, but it would be more practical if Photoshop would just recognice the .HIF extension in the first place.

Same here… HIF files renamed as .HEIF just opens in reduced resolution (Win11).

After the rename sony.hif file xxx.heif the image does open.

But sadly only as a 320x212 pixel image. Pfffffft

My Sony A6700 can create raw, JPEG, and HEIF files.  The file extensions are ARW, JPG, and HIF.  LrC 13.2 can import and work on them all.  Ps 25.5.0 cannot open the HIF files though.  If I change the extension to HEIF though then Ps can open them.  Why does Ps require the extension to be changed?  This seems to be a bug or at the least an oversight that needs to be corrected.

Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Panasonic, etc. also create HIF files, but Ps seems to require the file extension to be changed to HEIF for them too.  LrC though can import and work on HIF files.

As with any new file format/extensions, Photoshop usually updates file extension compatibility in future software updates. However, as we've seen with other proprietary outliers, if the extension is not universally accepted (if the norm for other companies and Adobe remains .HEIF not .HIF) it may be up to Sony to confirm.
