Blue Share Button is in the way and useless

The blue share button is an annoying waste of space that interrupts users' workflow since at least 2018, based on older community posts.

Forgive the French setup, you can't miss how blue it is.

Now, I am aware that the colour of the interface can be changed, and the colour neutralized, however, the very existence of the button and the absence of an option to remove it is the real issue here.

I often work with the Photoshop window narrowed, as I have another tab on the side for reference. Narrowing the window, however, has the permanent icon list on the right of the toolbar cover the contextual tool options that Photoshop users use the program for, as seen in the screenshot below.

Moreover, the very presence of this list of fixed icons on the left of the screen, completely defeats the purpose of a CONTEXTUAL toolbar. This post is specifically about the blue share button because it is thrice as large as other icons, but it is worth pointing out that there is no need for any of these icons to be immovable. I personally have no use for any of them, and if I did, I would rather find these options elsewhere than in the way of the tool I am trying to use.

The share button is particularly egregious because it is for another program one requires a licence for. It's insulting that I, a paying costumer, have my workflow interrupted, because it is more important that I see a huge button for a program I do not use than I be able to use basic functions of Photoshop.

A way to address this known issue that has been troubling users for six years now could be

  • Making the toolbar customizable: allow users to hide/display the “permanent” options on it
  • Making a secondary toolbar with the permanent options that users can choose to display or not display next to the actual toolbar.
  • Altogether removing the options there. Only the blue share button and notification bell are not already options accessible through another menu. They could be moved to one. The search and tutorials are accessible through the “help” menu, and the workspace can be set in the “window” menu already, so removing them from the toolbar is inconsequential to their access.

TL;DR : the blue share button has been an annoyance for users since it was introduced, and Adobe has yet to allow users to simply turn it off, an option that pretty much every single tool, menu, or button has. Please, at least pretend to your users that you care about their experience more than about them signing up to another program.

What is the scaling factor you have set in Windows? Seems to be pretty high here, if the main menu extends all the way over to the right side.

Many thanks, D Fosse!

But changing the workspace option in Preferences to "Enable Narrow Options" it seems worse than the default, for my needs.

I hadn't realized that the Share button in the default settings doesn't prevent choosing anti-alias (though only shows the "A"), so now the default doesn't seem as bad as I thought. (Also shows "Contig" and checkbox.)

I'm using PS at 1920 x 1200 on my 14" laptop screen, relatively small for photoshop.

@pixel8mb

Maybe you need to check "enable narrow options bar" in Preferences. This condenses all the elements.

Many thanks to Samael351948604tis for his wonderfully clear description of the exact same problem I'm having.

But a huge boo! to Adobe if it's true what other comments say - that the Share button can't be hidden, moved, or disabled (I don't need it!)... You're kidding, Adobe!

For me, the "Share" button is right on top of the "Contiguous" option for magic wand selection. It appeared for me only recently after the latest update, and now my Photoshop is devalued.

Users being ignored about this and other issues in the past is a dismal way for Adobe to treat users, but when other updates caused problems (I'm a very long-time user), other users in this great community have come to the rescue. If there's another post elsewhere that I'm missing I hope someone will let me know.

The color can be killed in Preferences. It won't make the button go away altogether, but it's a lot easier to live with:

@Samael351948604tis I agree, there should be an option to disable it, at least there's a way to amend the UIColors to hide it, which I've been doing since it was first introduced 🙂
