Change text case: Convert a capitalized text to lowercase

I'm looking for the feature of being able to convert a capitalized text to lowercase when we paste it into photoshop (although the font supports lowercase). There is a feature to convert from lower case to upper case, but we cannot do the opposite.

Thank you for your response. The reason I opened this case is actually because, as you mentioned, this feature doesn’t exist in Photoshop. I have opened a voting request for adding this feature to Photoshop.

This can be done with a script, although there are complications if dealing with formatted text. The best current method is roundtrip to a styled text editor with this feature.

For clarity, note that anything done in the Character panel is formatting and does not actually convert the case. A good use for formatting is when you want upper case in the headings, but not when you generate a Table of Contents (InDesign). The headings are typed in lower case as they should appear in the ToC, then formatted to be upper case. "Convert" actually changes the case so it doesn't need to be re-typed.

I would like to request a Change Case feature in Photoshop’s Type Tool, similar to what already exists in Illustrator and InDesign.

Currently, Photoshop only offers “All Caps” and “Small Caps” in the Character Panel. This is very limiting when working with text in graphics, UI mockups, and social media content, where we often need to switch between Uppercase, Lowercase, Title Case, and Sentence Case quickly.

Having a built-in Change Case option would:

  • Save time by avoiding retyping or copy-pasting text into external apps.
  • Make Photoshop more consistent with other Adobe design tools.
  • Improve workflow for designers who rely heavily on Photoshop for text-based designs.

Please consider adding this to future versions of Photoshop. It would be a small change but a big productivity boost.

Thank you!

I am writing to request the addition of a Case Converter feature in Photoshop. Currently, while working with text layers, we can adjust font style, size, and formatting, but there is no direct option to easily change text cases (e.g., UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case) within Photoshop.

This feature would be highly valuable for designers, as it would save time and streamline workflows, especially when working with large amounts of text or exploring different design variations. While this functionality exists in tools like Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, bringing it to Photoshop would create consistency across the Adobe ecosystem and greatly enhance usability for text-heavy projects.

Thank you for considering this request.

I believe many designers would appreciate this addition, and it would make Photoshop even more versatile for professional use.

Hey, @Arjun Desai. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll clarify this for you.

The Character panel in Photoshop from Window > Character can pretty much fulfill this idea.

Head here to get started: https://adobe.ly/4mXLnem

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

@Arjun Desai

The Character panel will not convert the case in Photoshop (most likely you know this already). The Character panel can format lower case text to upper case, but cannot convert.

You are correct that Convert Case is missing from Photoshop, which at its core is an image editor. See this post where another user requested this:

I've moved your post from Discussions to Ideas and Upvoted it. When I started using Photoshop, text was pixels on the current layer. It's come a long way since then, but still does not have the capabilities of InDesign or even Illustrator. I'd like to see this feature too.

If you are looking in the Character panel, the All Caps button does not convert to upper case. Anything in the Character panel formats the text — the same as Bold or Italic or Underline. It does not convert.

Photoshop is weak with its Type controls, because it is not meant for page layout. It's original purpose was image editing, and over time Adobe has added some text cababilities.

InDesign and Illustrator let you convert type in Type menu > Change Case. Microsoft Word also lets you convert.

InDesign, Illustrator, and Word let you choose to either format or convert to uppercase.

Photoshop, an image editor, does not have Change Case (convert). It only has format and format is only for uppercase. That's how type has always worked in all applications I have ever used.

Apologies for not seeing your post for a week.
