Constant visibility of minimised document windows in Photoshop please.

Hi

I've recently moved from Windows to Mac and because of this I’ve also moved from Photoshop CS4 (it did everything I needed it too for a very long time) to Photoshop 2025. In CS4, when minimising document windows within Photoshop, they would be constantly visible as tabs at the bottom of the work space, making it really easy to click on any that you would need to work on / switch between / see what you have open at a glance. But now, in the 2025 version, they just disappear. To see them, I have to 'right click' the PS icon in the dock, click 'show all windows' and select the document window I want to re-instate it OR click on 'window' and scroll down to it there... and then repeat for both if I want to re-instate multiple. So, several clicks for each method as opposed to the one click and visibility of files of CS4.

So, my suggestion for an improvement would be to go back to the CS4 way of showing minimised document windows.

The top surface of an Apple mouse should also act as a track pad (personally, I hate such behaviour).

Hi Jeff,

Thanks so much for your reply. I don't use a track pad in any form but good to know for future ref if that changes.

I struggled with the tabs approach (years of using flowting windows I guess?). I will give it a go, thanks.

Aaaaahhhh, thanks. That's much better than before, at least you can see what documents are open at a glance.

That could be the best solution 😄

If you have a Mac laptop or a trackpad for your desktop, you can go to Apple>System Settings>Trackpad>More Gestures>App Expose and set it for either three or four finger swipe down.

Then you can see all the open documents in Photoshop displayed as thumbnails if your using Floating Document Windows.

Same as when you click Show All Windows from the Photoshop dock icon.

If you turn off minimizing into the application icon (System Settings), each minimized window will show in the Dock.

@GazC01

The tabbed interface was introduced in CS3. Have you tried it, as suggested by Stephen? I remember that it took me a short while to get used to it, but now I can't imagine going back to floating windows,

Update on my last reply.

It is a Photoshop thing whether using WIndows or Mac apparently. Just in Windows, you either click the PS in task bar or go via the 'Window' drop down menu to see open documents that have been minimised... either way, it's several clicks for the same result as one click in CS4.

Thanks again Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks very much for your reply.

I did wonder if it might be an OS thing. I tried to look up to see if the same issue exists on Windows 11 running Photoshop 2025. It looked to me like it is the same as on Mac but you click a PS logo near the top left of the screen maybe?(I should have taken a screen grab).

Thanks for the link, I'll look into it.

Would still be great for Adobe to do it the CS4 (possibly Windows) way, even on Mac.
