Could onion-skinning be a feature for frame by frame animation too?

The title says it all really.
I don't even really use it that much (I'm using Fresco) but I don't really understand why this feature isn't available in both modes (video timeline and frame animation). Unless there is a technical reason?
Fresco manages it pretty well, and the workflow is similar than it would be with Photoshop.
