Generate Fill toolbar location is irritating

All images in Photoshop now have the Generative Fill toolbar floating across the bottom and it gets in the way. It's not possible to dock that toolbar anywhere in the UX and while there's an option to "pin it" to a location, that toolbar location is pinned for only for a specific image.  If you are working on multiple images and select a different open image, the Generative Fill toolbar jumps back to floating over that newly selected image.

IT'S ALWAYS IN THE WAY and covering up the bottoms of my images!

I assume most folks (like me) are not using Generative Fill with each and every image, so I'd rather that the toolbar behave like the other tool sets and options (eg. having it across the top of the screen or as a docking panel on the side).

Thanks for posting the version (25.0) when it would dock. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to use the PIN feature.  I just had to reinstall my operating system, and with it, all of my programs. I was using older versions of LRC and PS before, and it would dock perfectly fine.  I'll be reinstalling the older versions only to avoid having to continually move it...so annoying.

Why they ever got rid of the ability to dock it is beyond me!!!  Not smart and not better...

Update: Yes, since this was last posted, Adobe has made updates to photoshop to be able to pin it away from the bottom. This was a comment related to the first rollout of the feature back in 2023, when it didn't have the ability to pin it away yet. There have been improvements between then and now in 2024.

Like WinAir I finally found the "pin position" option under the three dot menu on the popup. Phew! That was the most annoying thing!

Heyyyy bud

I'm not sure if this is a new solution, but it was bugging me too.

I just bring the little toolbar or whatever you call that generative fill box to the bottom of the page, click the 3 dots and choose "Pin Bar Position". It is now always out of the way and easily accessible. Sorry if I answeed something that you didn't ask.

I'm in 25.6.0 release, and I have the same issue as author.
I will disable it for now as D Fosse says.

I agree! I like it open, but let me dock it or close it like the other tools, such as the Layers Panel. I don't need it all the time, but if I do, I'll open it. But if it's buried in a menu list, I will forget it exists.

@Jay@TeamPurple I'm not experiencing the same behavior with 25.0 release. I "docked" mine by pinning it to a dead area of the workspace and it holds even after quitting and relaunching PS until I reposition it. Its not document-based behavior.

For me, this is out of the way and simualtes a docked position until the team can come up with a better solution.

It would still be nicer if that toolbar were dockable or appear as a contextual option across the top of the screen.  It's goofy that this particular tool doesn't behave like the rest of the Photoshop UI.  And once it's enabled again for one image you're editing, it remains enabled and floating over your other images as well until it's hidden/disabled again -- unlike the other docked and tabbed palettes that remain in place and off to the side once you're done with them.

(Of course there are a bunch of other tools in Photoshop that don't behave consistently either...but they don't hover over my images continually.)

...or click the three dots and "hide".

(sorry, I seem to have posted before I was finished 🙂 )

To show or hide the Contextual Task Bar  select “Window| Contextual Task Bar” from the Menu Bar to toggle its display on or off.
