gradient layer tool

The recent changes to gradient layer editing have been significantly disruptive to my workflow, specifically the new behavior in which the top toolbar is no longer synced with the gradient settings in the properties panel. Previously, they served essentially the same purpose but now the top toolbar only works to generate new gradient fills.

Editing the active gradient layer using the toolbar has been a constant part of my workflow for over a decade and. I require many toolset windows to create nearly all of my deliverables and I now have to have an additional tab open in my interface to accommodate the change. My workspace is already feels cramped and I prefer to keep the properties panel tucked away.

It also splits my workflow into two locations unnecessarily. If the top toolbar is for creating new gradients then I don’t understand why it would modify an already existing fill. Other tools, like the paintbrush, don’t overwrite the existing layer data.. they modify it they way the old gradient toolbar always has.

At the least, it would be convenient if I could opt out of major tool behavioral changes like this.
