Halo Removal Tool

When working on my landscape images I often see white halos around high contrast edges from compositing, over-processing, over-sharpening, or all of the above. I'd love to see Photoshop have a halo removal tool to help with these. I envision it to be similar to the Refine Edge Tool where a user could selectively paint over an area; then Photoshop would use some of that wonderful Adobe Sensei magic to clone the appropriate pixels into the white halo.

 

Doing this manually with the clone stamp tool set to Darken is very tedious. A dedicated tool would be a massive time saver. Thanks for your consideration.

Have you tried the JPEG Removal filter from Neural Filters on your over-processed images? See this tutorial from Jesús Ramirez:

To avoid it in the future, don't work on JPEGs and resave them. JPEGs are lossy, meaning they lose information each time you edit and save them. The best practice is to save in a non-lossy format such as PSD or TIFF, then save once to JPEG if you need a JPEG. Edits should be made in the TIFF or PSD file, then saved to a new JPEG.
