Index Color mode becomes an Adjustment Layer.

You can edit your color table in the properties panel the same as you would with any other Adjustment Layer. Having a non destructive way edit index colors would be amazing for production.

It’s not clear what you are asking for; can you clarify?

Index mode does not support layers at all. There is one layer called “Index”.

For extensive editing, you need to convert to RGB mode, then convert back to Index. Is this what you are doing?
