Keyboard Shortcuts for Character Styles

Photoshop's Character Styles panel is useful for saving text formatting. However, there is no way to assign a keyboard shortcut directly to a saved character style. This means that even if a style is saved, users still have to manually click on it in the panel or manually adjust multiple properties (font, size, color, etc.) to apply it.

This is a major slowdown for anyone who works with text in Photoshop and needs to quickly apply different styles, especially to specific words or phrases within a text layer.

Current workarounds are frustrating:

  • Manually clicking styles is slow.

  • Trying to record actions to apply styles often doesn't work reliably for text that you select with your mouse; it might only apply to the original text you recorded, or the whole layer.

Desired Feature:

Please add the ability to assign a keyboard shortcut to each saved Character Style directly within the Character Style Options dialog.

How it would work (ideal):

  1. I define a Character Style (e.g., "Headline Bold").

  2. In the Character Style Options, there's a field where I can type a keyboard shortcut (e.g., Ctrl+Shift+H).

  3. When I'm editing text in Photoshop, if I select a word or phrase with the Type Tool and press Ctrl+Shift+H, that Character Style is immediately applied to my selection.

Since 2018 I've spent hours upon hours trying every workaround, every script, every trick in the book, and frankly, my mouse hand is cramping from all the clicking. So now, I'm just here, politely begging: please, please, please consider adding this feature. PLEASE OH MERCIFUL PHOTOSHOP SOFTWARE ENGINEER GODS! My workflow (and my wrist) will thank you forever!
    PS. I know about InDesign
PSS. Not everyone has a boss who wants to use it.
