New smart object via copy for Linked smart object

I have a workflow where I would like copies of linked artwork with identical transformations. The simplest way to do this is to right click the smart object and select "Create new smart object via copy".

The problem is, only embedded smart objects have the "Create new smart object via copy" option available. It took me quite a long time of searching the web to figure out that to create a new smart object via copy, it must be an embedded smart object instead of a linked smart object (both of which appear very similarly in the ui to someone not knowing there's a difference).

I'd like to be able to make a new smart object via copy in the same way for linked smart objects as I can currently do so with embedded smart objects.
