Object Selection Tool - A Way to Cancel an Object Selection That's Taking Too Long to Process

When using the Object Selection Tool, there are times when the selection process takes an inordinate amount of time to process a selection. It would be great if there were a way to cancel the process, because as it is, unless you close the program, there's no way to cancel it once it's started.
