Why, still, is there no glyphs palette/panel/menu in Photoshop? It's pretty sad that I have to use Illustrator or CopyPasteCharacter.com to get the glyphs I need for my raster designs.

Oops, I should have used Palatino Linotype as an example (its small caps can be found about 90% of the way through the font). The problem occurs with OpenType fonts as well as AAT fonts. It's an API mismatch, not just a smart-font-format mismatch.

Yes, Photoshop's support for AAT fonts is very limited.

You can test this easily. In Font Book, go to what is now the "View" menu and select "Repertoire." Choose Hoefler Text. Scroll down to the real small caps about half way through the font. Copy it and paste it into Photoshop (or Illustrator or InDesign). You get a notdef.

The same copy-paste of special alternate glyphs *does* work for many apps on Mac OS. Basically any apps that use Apple's APIs for advanced typography. But Adobe apps use their own module for this, called CoolType.

You can see all of the glyphs in a font in Font Book, but you can not get the alternate glyphs from Font Book into Photoshop (or just about any Adobe app). When you paste from Font Book (10.10 Yosemite) into Photoshop CC 2014 r2, alternates show up as .notdefs instead. In most fonts that's a rectangle with an X through it. I re-checked when I first saw your suggestion.

Thomas, this is where I found out how to access ALL of they glyphs in a font:

I did what she says to do, and can use and access them in PS. Sorry you think I'm incorrect, and have to be so negative. I'm done wasting my time with you. Hope you have a great day.

But when you post something that is untrue in multiple places, it is that much more work to correct—or we let people believe something that isn't true.

Again, Font Book only works for getting encoded characters into Photoshop text. It does not get alternates (see p. 7 of the Adobe OpenType User Guide http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/pdf...). All those glyphs that are displayed by clicking on the little triangle in the character cell can't be brought into Photoshop via Font Book.
