Seriously, put that in the preferences... It used to annoy me in the past... but now with the hideous CS6 splash screens it's simply a necessity.

I can't believe that someone in Adobe hadn't stopped the open screen from being released. To me I see a young woman who has suffered trauma at some point and has the remaining skin discoloration as reminder of it.
Please don't move this to the user modify open screen thread. Let's hear what others think about it.

I am not so worried about whether the woman is happy/sad/glad/mad... or just maybe upset at having all that insanely colourful paint dumped all over her.   It is the insanely colourful COLOURS that are a major distraction to me everytime I open this app.  Please give me an option to at least MUTE it in some way.

bump.
Please add an option to disable splash screen pictures if you will not allow custom splash screens.

Oh dear, oh dear. I am not upset with you. In fact, whatever my face is...I liked your phrase about faces. It was funny. So I used it too. Hope you were not licensing your content here. 😉

But, indeed, there are many ways to reach the aim. And one of them is buzz zzz zzz (constant and annoying) to make them feel same uncomfortable as I do looking daily at the pic. Remember your moody wives, sticky girl/boy friends, salesman following you for 2-3 kilometres in order to sell something abroad? Yeah... that's it. )))

But it is also true that I speak only for myself. Well.. actually "we" in such a subjective context as art sounds... mm... a bit too pathetic. Sorry if I am being too harsh.

I'm not sure why you're upset with me, but I agree the image is unpleasant, and I agree it looks violent, and I wish they'd at least let us change it... But I also agree they probably won't listen.  😞

Well... whatever my face is... I do demand. In daily life the image is effectively turns into a punchbag instead of being a shiny height to lust (or it was not intended?).

But, somehow, I am almost sure they will not give attention to your or similar pleas regarding PS in the nearest future. Some necks are too stiff to turn to the failure even in humble form.

The only hope is that next time they will think twice.

"Very many (I assume most) of us..." seems to leave quite a broad and boldface indication that I'm not speaking for everyone, and the other comments above make it clear I'm not alone, either.

The only remotely unqualified "we" was where I said we open Photoshop as a key part of going to work.  If that's what you're all offended about, I do apologize, but reiterate that the sentence directly before it should make it clear it's not intended to be in any way universal.

You do understand that nobody's demanding the change the image, right...?  Only asking that we be given a way to do so on our own copies.

Could you, please, speak for yourself. There is no need in conjoining me to your WE here.

A lot of critical and super-defensive stuff about the new (2018 - since this request seems to have been being ignored for a lot longer than that) splash screen art.  I won't side with the "Ugly art is ugly." folks or the "omg search your feelings, all art is beautiful!" folks but I will point out the obvious...

Very many (I assume most) of us who open Photoshop every day are creative professionals.  We open Photoshop as a key part of going to work.  It'd be nice if we could choose what image inspires us while we wait for it to load up. Disabling the splash art is ok, as a work-around, but customization would be better.

If "challenging your perceptions" is part of your work flow, more power to you - even you'd benefit from the ability to change the splash screen art, so you could put something even uglier in there, and really challenge yourself.

There have been images I loved and images I was more "meh" about, but this last one is the only one I remember that makes me wince and look away every time.  It's NOT a nice way to go to work.
