P: Allow simple maths in number fields.

So if I want my canvas to be 43px smaller I can basically type 160-43. Or if I want it to be 2.5x bigger I can do 160x2.5.
Any number field can benefit from this. Very often I have to open the calculator to figure out numbers.

Thank you, that addresses my needs perfectly. I had no absolutely no idea that functionality existed. Mind you I've only been using it for 20 years 🙂 RTFM to me then. Thanks again.

BTW, even if I'm strongly in favor of basic math, I'd like to point out that Canvas size has had for a long time a way to add or reduce documents with + or minus operators: click on "relative", then enter the value you'd like to increase your document to, or -{value} to reduce it by that value. Way less intuitive than basic math, I know, but still it exists.

Basic math in the canvas size dimension fields would be a big help for me. I frequently have to extend images for designers by taking measurements from InDesign with the ruler tool and have to reach for the calculator. Can't do two decimal places in my head!

It would be very convenient if Adobe Photoshop could do simple calculations in it's input field. E.g type 768*2 in a field, and the software makes it 1536. Most other software does this, but PS lacks this user friendly way of inputting.

"5+2 !=" ??? Not following. Also not a math expert. More like a math retard.

I'd be happy if PS allowed simple math in text fields like Illustrator already does.

no, because 5+2 != 15+2. Was the intent to get 7, or just to always add 2 -- the application can't know.

But if there's a "+" or a "-" preceding the value, isn't that explicitly relative? As in, being a modifier of current value, and not a replacement for it?

That's more of a problem - because you don't know whether the intent was an absolute or relative specification, and the action can be used without the original context. In general, it is much safer to record the absolute unless the field is specified as a percentage.

It would also be nice if actions would record the math modifier instead of the result. For example if I type +5 in the blue of a solid color layer, the action would record that I added five blue, not the result of the addition.

Haha, no I agree. Was sarcasm; just poking fun.
I have big respect for the PS team. How could I not. PS is by a landslide my favorite program of all time.
