There is a sharpen filter. Go to Filters and Adjustments where you would find adjustments like Gaussian blur and invert then click on Camera Raw Filter. From there go to details and you'll find the option to sharpen! Hope this helps!

Almost 6 years and still no sharpen feature on Ipad. This is insane

Perfect! Thank you so much for setting it all out so clearly! It works very well indeed, and the top layer can be directly inverted. Fantastic!

@Kelly5C2A

I don't have the iPad version, this was created in the full desktop version.

I just wanted to know if the basic principle worked on the iPad.

If the iPad version can't create an invert adjustment layer, you can hopefully just directly invert the top layer instead.

I didn't bother to mention the steps as I didn't know if this would even open correctly on the iPad version.

Steps to sharpen using layers, blend modes and blur:

  1. Duplicate the original flattened Background layer
  2. Let's call this layer "overlay" for clarity (named Faux USM 1 in my original screenshot)
  3. Set this layer blend mode to overlay
  4. Duplicate this overlay layer and rename it "inverted vivid light" for clarity (named Faux USM 2 in my original screenshot)
  5. Set this layer blend mode from overlay to vivid light
  6. Use the invert command on this layer
  7. Run Gaussian Blur filter or any other blur/smoothing filter on this layer to sharpen

. Looks great, but I can't quite figure out how you did it. You say there are two layers in the group, but I see three, and I don't know how you made invert into an adjustment layer. I'm so confused! Can you please clarify the steps for us iPad total beginners? Thank you so mucn!

I get around this with 2 layers in a group 1) Base image 2)(above) Gaussian blur, invert, and change blend to vivid light. Change blend mode of group (with 1&2) to overlay. Acts like high pass filter ~

Agreed.

Until then, I'm just curious if the following layer stack in the linked PSD file translates into the iPad version correctly...

No sharpening, just blur, invert and layering with blend modes:

it's a must have feature

I was actually quit surprised to find that this feature was not in Photoshop on iPad. Rather disappointed. Feels like this should be a definite.
