Photoshop 27.10 Light Layer Defaults to Legacy Version and Latest (Recommended) Option Is Greyed Out with 32 bit images

So I have updated to v27.10 on my Windows machine and was excited to try this new layer functions, as of course the blacks slider for instance is really useful. For a few days, I was able to use it… but now when I open ps, the Light layer defaults to the Legacy (before 2026) version and I cannot select the latest (recommended) version because it is greyed out! I’m not sure what changed. I can’t find anything in settings about it, but these menus are also a maze, so I’m not above asking for directions.

    Hi @skilled_inventorf5af

Apologies for the experience. We were able to replicate this behavior with RGB 32-bit, CMYK, Grayscale, and Lab images and can confirm that this is currently expected behavior and working as designed.

That said, we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We’ve noted it and will relay it to the product team for their consideration.

Thank you for your understanding and patience while this gets implemented.

Could you please post a complete screenshot that allows us to see what bit depth the image has.

Edit: It seems I can reproduce the issue with a 32bit image.
