Photoshop is long overdue for a proper Cryptomatte plugin / full support so that we can use cryptomattes like we do in virtually every other piece of compositing software (including AE). Why isn't this already a thing? It's looong overdue.

Yes, propper Cryptomatte Support in PSD would be a big time saver.

EXR-IO is Windows only.

Yes I've been using this for many years. It's not a proper cryptomatte effect / plugin. Simply converting all the elements to layers is only partially functional. In terms of How Adobe could support this look to how Cryptomattes are handled in AE. The same / similar functionality should be available in PS as it's a primary compositing tool for image work.

I use the EXR-IO plug in. It works in the current version and handles cryptomattes well.

Just drop the Exr-IO.8bi file into the Photoshop plug ins folder at C: Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop 2025 > Plug-ins
